We will explore a wide range of authors, whose stories embrace a varied fabric and expansive human experiences in literature and history. The class format will include discussions where we analyze the text and story, in class reading as well as reading homework assignments. We will start the year with one of my favorite authors, Zitkala-Sa. Born in 1876 on the Yankton Reservation, her life story and creative contributions of art, music and literature is a stunning contribution to the fabric of the American Experience. There will be in class and homework writing assignments about the material, authors and cultural impact of the work we read. We will also research the authors, their lives and the life experiences that influenced their writing.
