The earth (geology) and the stars (astronomy) are all part of a larger system that is explained by the rules of physics and chemistry. The movement of energy (physics) is part of what keeps planets inhabitable or uninhabitable. How do we learn about the stars? Using light and other energy waves, as observed by telescopes of various types. What do the weather and volcanoes have in common? Geology, along with a bit of physics, describe the motions of the atmosphere and the Earth’s crust and mantle in surprisingly similar ways! How do stars evolve? Well, astronomy is a fusion of physics and chemistry. Hands-on activities and conversations during class will build on the reading and writing students do at home. (This is a lab class)
