When we look deeper into the history which surrounds these films, we can analyze when and more importantly why artists chose to immortalize these specific stories on screen. This class will dive into movies both about, and created during, major events throughout American History. We will cover periods from Antebellum America, Civil War, Great Depression, Civil rights movements, through the 21st century, and so much in between. Through class discussions, research and writing assignments, students will strengthen analytical skills, historical understanding, and critical thinking. We will also discuss the importance of determining if a film is a legitimate historical source! This course is perfect for anyone interested in film making, history, loves to discuss or listen, or even just loves watching movies!
