Class Description
Students will delve into American Literature with a holistic focus including genres such as: Native American oral tradition stories, poetry, American folklore, short stories, novels and graphic novels. We will follow how American literature is influenced by colonialism, slavery and the migration of people from cultures around the world. Like America itself our literature is a melting pot of ideas, iconic characters, mythology, heroes and voices. There will be weekly reading and writing assignments as well as class discussions. We will explore American Literature as a voice to power and a voice of power.

There is a break between each High School class. High School aged DD students are welcome to use the teen/teacher lounge and waiting area to eat, socialize, do home work etc. between classes. This is for high school students only. Students in the lower grade classes need to be registered in our Down Time Program or picked up immediately after their class is completed.
