This is a class that will tackle challenging themes in a safe, respectful space. We’ll read engaging fiction that confronts many topics, including gender identity, race, and class. Lively debate is more than welcome. The sessions will include plenty of sharing, and all opinions are welcome. Also, we’ll be doing group creative writing, performing skits, and writing songs. There will be short, optional written assignments, and a final project of the student’s choice (an essay, drawing, presentation, skit, etc.). The first book will be assigned but subsequent ones will be voted on by the group. The sessions will be relaxed and fun and students are encouraged to give feedback about what suits their needs.
