Or rather, zines, an old-fashioned print format that was born in the 1930’s and uses a variety of mediums to break the limits of the traditional one-size-fits-all format. In the 90’s, zines were widespread in the punk and indie rock movements; they were inexpensive, (or free), and promoted ideas and politics that were ignored by the mainstream. In our class, students will learn how to use their voice to communicate what is important to them. They’ll make informational, social issue, personal, and speedy story zines. Zines can be large, hand written, printed, collaged… your child will have the freedom to create what they want. Our goal will be to create a zine library for Different Directions.
