Playing With Classics

2:30pm-4:30pm Thursdays     Ages 8-11

This hands-on class will focus on the “playing” of scenes from classic plays and poems. Shakespeare will definitely make an appearance this year. It will include acting, literary and communication skills, vocabulary building, history, social skills and laughter all along the way. Games, improvisation, and lots of student input lead to our creations.  Each semester new material will be explored; so new and returning students will find a fresh class.  There may be some imaginative assignments for students to do between sessions - optional to respect the differing philosophies in your home schooling.  Our simple costumes and props will be student driven.  Parents and friends may be invited to an open class presentation during the term.

I really can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed Playing with Classics for my 8 yr old son. His class worked on Pandora’s box, King Midas, as well as Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. It thrilled me to watch him dive deeply into the plot and characters in this classical literature.Thank you Laurie!    -Rhonda
