Life Science (BS Zoology, MS Physiology/Developmental Biology)

10:00am-12:00am Mondays     Ages 11-14

This course will focus on the building blocks of Biology, the study of life. This year-long course will begin with ecology, continue to classification and how life is organized, cell function and structure, plant anatomy and function, and unicellular organisms. Later in the year we will introduce zoology and will look at different animals, including humans and terminate with finding the unifying themes that bring all organisms - plant and animal - together. Each class period will include a lab component (microscopy, drawing, dissection of small invertebrate and vertebrate organisms (virtual labs are possible, please inquire), DNA extraction, etc. using real laboratory equipment. The lab time will be over 50% of Class, and sometimes the entire session. Small group work is emphasized during labs and active learning time.
