Introductory Elementary Math
10:00am-11:30am Mondays Ages 8-10
We’ll use manipulatives, puzzles, games and word problems to make math come alive! Our focus will be on making math make sense and developing intuition for numbers and other abstract ideas. For this age group, the class will focus on place value, the four operations, fractions, and geometry, approaching these topics concretely and visually in order to enable children to form concrete conceptual models of them.
As enrichment, we will gently explore ideas that will serve children in their later mathematical studies. Possible topics include an introduction to algebra, the binary system, negative numbers and combinatorics.
Teacher: Olena Blumberg
