Advanced Chess

1:00pm-2:00pm Tuesdays     Ages 13-18

We will be analyzing and learning famous chess openings such as The Ruy Lopez (a.k.a. Spanish game), Italian game, Sicilian defense, Caro-Kann Defense, etc. We will learn how to use chess notations and write down the games. Weekly chess problems will be done in class, as well as given as homework. The history of chess and biographies of famous chess masters will be discussed.

 This class will be good for intermediate students as well as advanced chess players, without classical chess training and willing to familiarize themselves with more structured playing methods. Description to Follow

Teacher: Ekaterina Machavariani

Ekaterina (Elena's mom) holds a Master's degree in Mathematics from NYU-Courant Institute. When in high school she participated in national and international mathematics competitions and has a gold medal from international math project competition. Following graduate school she has been tutoring students all around NYC. Besides her love for math and sciences, she also loves to read about nutrition and is an avid cook herself. She finds joy in non-toxic and environmentally friendly ways of living.
